poker computer securityMost online poker players I know don’t know so much about computers and computer security. Securing your computer is always important when your computer is connected to the internet especially when you play online poker.

 It’s an illusion to think that you can secure your computer 100% but you can do many things to make it much more difficult for the bad guys. Here are some simple things you can do to improve your computer security.

It’s obvious that everybody who has access to your computer can login. The other reason is that people who have access to your computer can convert the password symbols, usually an asterisk, to the original password and use it later when you don’t expect it.

 

Don’t use file sharing programs like limewire on your poker computer.

It’s just to risky to open your computer for the rest of the world. It’s really easy to download Trojan horses or viruses via this kind of sharing programs.

 

Use a legitimate version of windows.

It is really important that you get the latest security updates for your operating system.

 

Use a firewall and  anti-virus software.

You want to scan the integrity of your computer regularly with good ant-virus software.

 

Don’t use wireless connections.


It is not secure even if you encrypt it.

 

Choose strong passwords.

When you choose a password for an account choose a strong password. A strong password is a combination of letters (capital and small) en numbers. The minimum length should be eight.
Use a different password on every site and change it every four months.

 

Watch out with your email account.

Most sites have a “forgot password” which will mail you a new password. If someone can access your email they can access your account as well. Don’t let your email account be the weakest link!
